Fun At FOWA

Earlier this week, we attended the Future Of Web Applications conference in London.

London from the outside

Though outside it was gray and pouring (as usual in this neck of the woods), inside The Brewery – FOWA’s selected venue – sunshine abounded, and we spent a vibrant and engaging couple of days soaking up the tech scene. While Dorian delivered a talk, we were mainly there to listen (though due to popular demand, we will be sharing a very cool video with you of the speech as soon as it has been uploaded).

Dorian humors the crowd

Fowa is a amazing conference held to bring together innovators who would share their insights – be it on Marketing for start ups, on new directions and tips in web design, and more. Also up and about are people seeking jobs and connections. I guess that’s par for the course. Unfortunately for these, few companies seemed to be on the hunt; networking seemed limited to the people surrounding you at the dessert table; and there were few investors in attendance.

A pretty cool calling card from an attendee

Still, it was very worth attending. This year FOWA had an impressive plethora of presentations to choose from. While cloud computing doesn’t really speak to me. I checked out Mike McDerment from Freshbooks’ talk about Marketing web apps to the masses, and Shaa Wasmund-Smarta’s talk about how to use social media to market your app by creating brand ambassadors and real loyalty. These all related closely to what we’re now doing here at the marketing department at Memonic), and they were FUN. In the end, that’s what it’s all about: working within our tight-knit community, and making it as pleasurable as possible.

We hope to see you all at the next one, too!
