FAQ: Permissions And Scope Of Notes

We regularly receive questions concerning the permission system in Memonic. Can everyone see my notes? How do I change scope? What is default?

First of all, Memonic features three scope stages for notes – Private, Friends and Public. Private means that only you can see the note. There’s only one exception to that, if you grab a sharing link, the note can be viewed no matter what permissions are set. So be careful with sharing the link. The second scope stage – friends – enables you to make notes public to the friends you connected to within Memonic. The last one, public, will make the concerning notes readable to everyone opening your profile.

Per default, all notes are private. Permissions can be changed either when clipping or in Memonic itself. Just check the checkbox of the note (1) you want to change permissions and head over to the “Share” menu where you then can select one of the three scopes (2).

Address clipping with Memonic

This week we released a new addition to the Memonic clipper: address clipping. On certain web sites we detect the presence of addresses and allow you to clip those easily.

When you choose the option to clip the address the detected address is automatically selected and you can save it with just one click.

This feature becomes really useful in the case of our Memonic for Salesforce clipper. There we present you with the option to create a Contact or a Lead. All the information we can extract is then automatically pre-filled in the corresponding form on Salesforce.com.

On a technical level we use the hcard microformat standard to find this information. If the clipping doesn’t work for you please contact us with details about the site you’re trying to clip from.

Some sites where we have successfully tested this clipper are XingLinkedIn and local.ch.

Image annotation for screenshot mode

Friday was a good day. Not only was it the end of a work week for most of us, but we also released a new version of Memonic, now supporting image annotation in the clipper’s screenshot mode. This is very exciting as it let’s you draw rectangles, arrows and text directly onto the website clipped.

When clicking “save” it get’s added to your notes, looking exactly the same as you sketched it before. Isn’t that exciting?

Have a look at the new features and enjoy them! Let us know what you think about them!

Introducing Screenshot Mode

We are very proud of our Clipper. In fact, it’s probably the one thing we’re proudest of. It’s been called the best in many reviews, right from the first iteration. Now, we are about to announce that it just got even BETTER.

In its beginnings, you could clip or highlight only the parts of a webpage you wanted to keep –which back then was a revelation. Since then, it has evolved a lot.

Today, our clipper lets you bookmark, read later, add a new note, and with gathering mode, stay in the same search folder for the duration of a session.

But we’re not stopping at that, or resting on laurels. We constantly try to step further and improve the clipper for you, imagining what you might want it to do next – and listening to your requests. Some improvements we put into place aren’t visible, but just smoother. But some make a big splash. And with that, we want you to say hello to the newest addition to our clipper: Screenshot mode!

As of this moment, you can set your clipper to take a screenshot of any webpage. It will screenshot, and automatically add the file it into a new memo.

If you’re thinking: “What? That’s it?” – the answer is no. This is just a first implementation; many enhancements to the new screenshot mode will come. We think you’ll love them. And at some point, we hope the clipper is so sophisticated, it will pretty much do everything short of making your morning coffee.

Let us know what you think, below, and enjoy the new mode!

Chrome users (using the clipper plugin) already benefit from the new functions. Firefox users need a bit of patience until the Firefox team has approved it. We expect it to be available latest by end of next or the following week!
