Behind the scenes: Photo shooting for Squirro!

On Friday we felt like super stars – thanks to the talented photographer Michael Schmid (Website, Twitter) flashes enlightened the whole office. The reason for this paparazzi session was to take pics for our next big thing – Squirro. If you are ever looking for a talented photographer in the greater Zurich area, then we can highly recommend Michael, he did a fantastic job! Here are some shots from behind the scenes (they were taken with an iPhone4 camera, the final pics of us will certainly be of better quality):

[Job] We want you! Senior Javascript Developer

For the next phase of Memonic’s development we’re looking for a senior Javascript developer. The next phase? Yes we are expanding the Memonic platform to become your personal digital research assistant.

That’s you

You have several years of experience in building bleeding-edge frontend applications. When Jesse James Garrett coined the word Ajax you thought it’s just another word for something you had been doing all along. You love building avant-garde frontend applications that work offline and are extremely fast. You have built responsive designs so that the same application works on browsers of all sizes.

You like to work under the pressure and excitement of a growing startup. Our development methodology Scrum is no hubbub expression to you.

You are willing and able to work at our offices in the center of Zurich, Switzerland. You have a work permit in Switzerland or are a citizen of an EU or EFTA state.

We want you

For a new product launching in early 2012 we seek you for a fix position. You will be part of the core platform team building this real-time knowledge gathering platform. Within days you will be taking over the responsibility for sizable portions of the frontend. All in all: A pretty exciting job.

That’s us

Become part of a sound, fervent, and vibrant team: We are a team of passionate Internet geeks and entrepreneurs. Together we face the challenge of simplifying the everyday need for information gathering and refining: Discover, follow, collect, and share any interest. We call it Knowledge Curation.

[Tutorial] How to add a Memonic folder to iGoogle

We’ve recently been asked if you can add a Memonic folder to your iGoogle dashboard. Thanks to Memonic’s RSS capabilities and iGoogle’s capability to add any RSS feed as a gadget to your dashboard, that’s not going to be a huge issue. We just need to get around two little obstacles first.

In your Memonic account, select the folder you want to mirror in iGoogle. You can easily generate an RSS feed out of any folder in Memonic by adding “.atom” to the end of the URL displayed in your address bar. However, since some notes might be privat they won’t appear in iGoogle. To get around this, instead of just appending “.atom”, add “.atom?secure=oauth” and hit enter. You will be given a very long URL for the RSS feed that includes all your notes, regardless of scope (private, friends, public). This also implies a privacy issue – make sure you don’t give away this URL, otherwise anybody would be able to watch your notes. Now, this URL theoretically could be added to iGoogle. However, it seems that there’s an issue with such long URLs. Thus, we need to shorten it first.

Reach out to your favourite link shortening service and shorten the long URL. Now copy the short URL, open iGoogle, click “Add Gadget” on the left-hand side, scroll down to and click “Add Feed or Gadget” and paste the short URL in the field appearing. Click “Add” and return to your dashboard. Enjoy!
