MacWorld.co.uk Rates Memonic: 4 Stars!

We we’re very delighted to hear that MacWorld.co.uk re-reviewed Memonic once again – and found it improved enormously. In fact, it has. The reviewer concluded that:

Few tools try so hard as Memonic. With rapid development adding features frequently, it’s the note taking tool to watch.”

The reviewer especially liked the advancements in the (still world’s best) web clipper and Memonic’s sharing functions.

Much tweaked since we last reviewed the service, web clippings can be taken from any page using Opera, Chrome or Firefox using a bespoke extension. Web clips have more features too, with image annotation for screenshots that you take on the fly and website address clipping.

Memonic’s central selling point remains – and that’s collaborative sharing. While that’s possible with Evernote and Springpad – it’s absolutely central to Memonic. New collections can be shared publicy or with friends.

All in all we were given a 4 star rating, thank you MacWorld.co.uk!

Macworld says: 4 stars (out of 5)

What a nice start into the weekend. Macworld UK did a review (900kb – pdf) of Memonic. They write “Fans of cloud-based bookmarking tool Delicious will be looking for something to fill a void now that the service is about to disappear. In Memonic, we think we’ve found the perfect replacement.”

And they continue, comparing us the the undisputed leader of the note-taking apps Evernote: “Having lived with it for a while, we’re actually more partial to Memonic than Evernote now.” Even comparing us to mighty Google: “It has clean lines and a no-nonsense interface, with the same frill-free feel as Google cloud applications.”

And their main grumble is about to be resolved: A missing Mac Desktop App. Say in a little more than a month. Stay tuned & Merci Beaucoup Macworld!

Memonic for Group Interaction…. a Cool Testimonial from Dagmar Muth

We always appreciate getting feedback here at Memonic on how people use that. In fact, we love it! It is very interesting to see how people actually use Memonic, and often – we have learned more from our users than we have from our own use.

Recently we got a very charming feedback from a user. Dagmar Muth from local.ch told us (on a plane from London to Zurich, in between watching blooper videos and grabbing chocolate from the nice Swiss air hostess) how she uses Memonic and how it helps her coordinate and organize information.

As it turns out, Dagmar is a very passionate hiker and regularly undertakes tours all around in Switzerland together with some of her friends (interestingly enough, our very own Toni, resident genius here at Memonic, belongs to that group as well).

Since she often takes the lead in organising these trips, she has to collect a lot of information about the whole journey – beginning from research for hiking routes, a place to visit or to stay over night, train information and timetables. To this end, Dagmar tells us that Memonic helps her to keep all the essential pieces of information centrally stored, arrange them and share them among her friends, which all take part in her Memonic-Group, aptly titled Swiss Hiking Ideas.

That’s how a group in Memonic looks like!

Obviously travelling requires a lot of research to be done. We were very delighted to hear the Memonic could support Dagmar in a way that she can manage the required information in an effective and efficient way.

If you would like to tell us how Memonic simplifies your life, don’t hesitate to get in touch with me, or with Keren Eldad by commenting below or emailing us <prename>@memonic.com. We look forward to hearing from you!

What’s the difference between us and…

Prompted by these Tweets …

“@matthiasdaues Memonic (@mymemonic) looks interesting, but they haven’t explained to me why I should switch from evernote…”  jted.

“@jted This is true. But it’s certainly not bad to know an alternative. Perhaps @mymemonic reacts to your mention. How would be interesting.” matthiasdaues

… I thought a quick post about some advantages of our product could be worthwhile – and may be start a Internet Meme on online note taking applications?!

Basically any note taking application may be split into three steps: Capture, Organize, Use & Share.

The first step is capturing any digital content. A tricky and difficult part, as any website or source (office documents, research databases) etc. require special attention to produce a good snippet. Thereafter: a little organization of your snippets might be useful. And, your snippets are no end to themselves: You want to use them and/or share them.

In our case:

  • On Capture: Our web clipper and browser extensions allow you a versatile selection process of any type of digital content. Some consider our web clipper best in class.
  • On Organization: No need to learn how yet another application interface works. A snippets may be considered an “email”. Hence our simple and straight forward user interface modeled on ease of use.
  • On Use & Share: I guess here we make a real difference (already).

These are just a few benefits of using Memonic.

Sure we’re only 10 months live. There is a long way to go to make this a comprehensive solution for all your note taking needs. A few things are on our list: A desktop edition, more dedicated mobile editions (e.g. Android), export functionality, ability that 3rd parties may integrate Memonic easily, and much more.

To end I guess it’s best to let our users say what they think:

“Memonic is my choice of Google Notebook replacement! A gem!” RogerDis

“playing around with the new app @mymemonic just did some tests and I must say this is just right! Love the app…keep up the good wrk!” ntm23

“Techie Buzz verdict: 5/5 – Brilliant. Memonic has all the tools you need for clipping content from blogs or editorials.” TechieBuzz

“Memonic lets users to select and collect snippets of websites, documents, and pictures on the web and any offline content for later use”. TechCrunch

Or read on here on what other news sources and blogs think about us.
